Abstract

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to identify the knowledge, experience and attitude of Korean nurses toward Complementary and Alternative Therapies(CAT).
Method:The subjects were 485 nurses working at hospitals in Seoul, Kangwon, Chungbuk, Chunnam and Kyongbuk provinces. A questionnaire were developed by researchers and the data had been collected for five weeks.
Result:Most of the subjects had heard about CAT or known the principles of CAT. About 44.5% of the subjects used CAT for them or their family. About 27.4% of the subjects had received CAT education. The subjects took a neutral attitude toward CAT.
Conclusion:Nurses need to expand their knowledge and skill toward CAT for patients. Further research investigating the knowledge and use patterns of alternative therapies between nurses and patients is needed.
